Could This Be The End For Eli and Tom?

The NY media (and useless NY fans) will want Coughlin fired and Eli gone if the Giants lose today. As a Cowboy fan I am rooting for the Bucs, just so the NY media gets its way. Coughlin and Eli have been to the playoffs three straight years. The other teams and coaches to do that are the Patriots, Colts and Seahawks, all teams with good QB's and good coaches. Troy Aikman didn't get to the playoffs until his 3rd season, and it wasn't even him at QB - it was Steve Buerlein. Coughlin only coaches winning teams and it would be great if he got fired and out of the NFC East. Bring back Ray Handley!

Stability is the key to long term success for a team and the fans. Just because a coach and QB does not win the Super Bowl every year, or even progress each year, does not mean the coach and QB deserve to be fired.

There are very few elite QB's and fewer elite teams, and usually one is a precursor to the other. Tom Landry coached the Cowboys for 29 years, but did not have his first winning season until his 7th year. Was he a bad coach. No, but he did not have the right personnel and gradually built up a winning team. Chuck Noll coached the Steelers for 23 years and did not have a winning season until his 3rd year. Even after winning two Super Bowls, his Steelers team, regressed for two seasons. If he did that for the Giants in today's day and age, he would have been canned. But Noll went on to win two more Super Bowl titles.

Both the above coaches began winning when he has a stable QB with Staubach and Bradshaw.

Stability in coaching and at the QB position are very important. Just look at the teams with the first round bye. Besides Romo, the other QB's have been at the helm for a minimum of 7 years. And this is actually Romo's fourth season with the Cowboys - same time as Eli with the Giants. Give Eli and Coughlin a break Giant fans or you might be looking at even a worse duo in the future.

Be careful of what you wish for Giants fans...you just may get it!
