No NY Baseball tonight, so why not Scranton?
With the Yankees and Mets both off tonight it would have been the perfect time for the YES network to broadcast LIVE the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Yankees/Durham Bulls AAA Championship game.
The Scranton Yankees have a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 series, winning both games on walk off base hits. It was the third walk off hit in a row for the Yankees, who got a home run from Shelley Duncan to win the first round playoffs.
Broadcasting tonight’s game would also give Yankee fans an opportunity to see Kei Igawa pitch. This season Igawa is 14-6 with a 3.45 ERA and was named as Scranton’s “2008 Pitcher of the Year.”
Instead, the YES network will give us Xavier Nady’s “dramatic” game against the Angels from August 3rd of THIS SEASON, a season that should NEVER have a Yankees Classic game. Only game this season that might warrant “classic” stature would be Joba outdueling Beckett during the summer.
But, I guess YES can’t have us hear enough times Michael Kay say “X marks the spot!” after Nady’s homer.
Checking over at SNY, the Mets network did a great job filling its Mets game time spot with the first home game the Mets played after the tragedy of 9/11/01. It was interesting to see Bobby Valentine as Mets manager and the Mets players wearing not their NY hats, but hats from the NYPD, FDNY, Port Authority Police and various other hero organizations whose members put their lives on the line that day for the New York people.
YES NETWORK missed the boat tonight. As Kay would say, “YES misses the spot!”
