Abreu, Nady and Giambi trying to reach milestones as Juan Miranda sits
Let’s see…a young player goes 2 for 4, should have had an RBI if Wilson Betemit could run the bases, and played first base really well, scooping out a ball in the dirt. You also crush RH pitching and today’s starter is a RHP. Even if the pitcher is perennial Cy Young candidate Roy Halladay, the young hitter needs to be in the lineup, especially with the Yankees out of the playoff picture.
So, what does Juan Miranda have to do to get another start with the Yankees?
He has to wait until Bobby Abreu (99), Jason Giambi (95) and Xavier Nady (93) get their 100th RBI’s. Abreu, tonight’s DH, will likely get to 100 first and then Giambi could DH and Miranda can get to play again.
And why shouldn’t he play? As a young, slugging LH hitter, he is perfect for the Yankees and Yankee Stadium. The Team has built its dynasty’s on LH power hitters and Miranda fits that mold. But, his progress takes a back set to certain veteran’s milestones.
And speaking of milestones, is it really injuries that are keeping Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez out of the lineup against AJ Burnett and Roy Halladay or is it that Jeter is over .300 for the season and that Arod finally hit his 100 runs, 35 HR’s, 100 RBI’s numbers and is hitting .300?
Can’t tell for sure, but it does seem suspicious. Either way, Miranda needs to play. He had a real good year at AAA Scranton, being voted Scranton player of the year. He will be a force next year and will make a great three way platoon at 1B/DH with Posada and Cody Ransom.
He needs to play every day. I am hoping that Abreu homers in his first at bat. That would get him his 100th RBi and put him at .300 for the year. Then he can join Jeter and Arod on the bench.
