The real reason why Bobby Meacham was fired by the Yankees

Third base caoch Bobby Meacham was fired today by the New York Yankees. Meacham was one of Joe Girardi's guys, having been his third base coach during Girardi's brief, one season tenure in Florida.

But, Bobby Meacham was fired (ie: scapegoated) because when playing in Houston he sent Chien-Ming Wang running home from second on a single, the play when Wang broke his foot and missed the remainder of the season.

Hank Steinbrenner is still seething over that moment, basically calling that the play which cost the Yankees a playoff spot. Remember when Hank fully criticized the National League and MLB for not having the DH in the NL?

While at the time Meacham didn't know, but the Wang run wasn't that important as the Yanks went on the collect a few more hits that inning, scoring 5 runs.

After the Wang injury Meacham became very hesitant about when and if he should send runners home. Once the indecisions were in his head, he needed to be removed from the coaching box.

As infield coach, he was also scapegoated for the decline in Robinson Cano's performance.

But, again Girardi doesn't do anything for fear of upsetting the apple cart, but in the process he ends up pissing off everybody.
