New York Mets Don't Need Texas shortstop Michael Young

Recent reports suggest that the New York Mets are seeking to trade for Michael Young, currently the shortstop for the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have asked Young to switch positions (yet again) and move from shortstop to third base. This move would make way for the young, highly touted prospect Elvis Andrus, obtained from the Atlanta Braves in the first Mark Teixeira trade. The Rangers really struck gold with that trade, also getting Jarrod Saltalamacchia and left handed starting pitcher Matt Harrison in the deal.

Why would the Mets want Young? If you are assuming Luis Castillo is not going to play for the Mets in 2009, Young fills the void of second base. But, are the Mets gong to be able to trade Castillo and the $18+ million left on his contract, especially after the injury plagued 2008 season he had? Probably not.
