It has been reported by Peter Abraham that Xavier Nady has apparently seriously re-injured his elbow and will have season ending elbow surgery.

Nothing is yet official from the Yankees, but Nady did have Tommy John surgery several years ago, and did feel a sharp pain in his right elbow last night.

This hits at the Yankees depth at the corner outfield spots, with Nick Swisher sliding into the full-time right field job and Melky Cabrera becoming the defacto fourth outfielder.

No word on who will be brought up, but it likely won’t be Austin Jackson. The Yankees do not want to rush Jackson and want to get him at least a full year in Scranton before any major league duty. Bringing him up now will only hasten his arbitration and free agency years. Not that it matters to me about the arbitration thing, and if a player is good enough to play he should play, but if brought up, Jackson will likely sit the bench in New York and he needs to play everyday right now.

The likely possiblity is Shelley Duncan to fill the right handed bat off the bench.

Imagine if it was Nady who was selected to pitch the eighth inning against the Rays Monday night and then he hurt his elbow. Jorge Posada would really be unhappy then!
